Player & Coach Policy
Player Equipment Requirements
Mid Coast Youth Hockey
Selection of hockey equipment is a key issue for players, parents and coaches. When purchasing and fitting hockey equipment, remember two important factors: 1) make certain the player is adequately protected and 2) be sure the fitting allows freedom of movement so the player can properly perform the necessary skills. By carefully considering these two factors, your child will be more comfortable and will better enjoy their participation.
A complete set of hockey equipment can be purchased for a relatively reasonable cost. MCYH provides rental equipment for 10 and younger players and local retailers
also offer reasonably priced hockey packages to buy.
REQUIRED EQUIPMENT
1. Helmet with face mask and strap
2. Neck guard: Mid Coast Hockey requires all players in all divisions to wear protective neck guards.
3. Mouth piece: Required for players in the 14-or-under through junior age classifications.
4. Shoulder pads
5. Elbow pads
6. Gloves
7. Protective pants
8. Groin protection (boys and girls)
9. Shin pads
10. Skates
11. Stick (Measurement: Player on skates, stick is standing vertical on floor; butt end should come to between chin and eyes)
Recommendations:
1. Obtain a mesh shirt that fits loosely over pads
2. Foot socks should not be thick, heavy material
3. Stick should have a minimal curve of less than ½” for beginners. Lay stick on ground with concave part of curve facing ground. At highest point in the curve the measurement should be no more than ½”.
4. Socks held up by a garter belt and secured with tape around the shin pads will keep the shin pads from moving all around.
